Will You Wait

Will you wait for me when the Autumn moon is blurred in the olive river

When the leaves have died and I’m not by your side to kick them up together

Will you wait for me when the storm bears down and you tremble in the street

In your thin blue sweater with no umbrella and rainwater pooled at your feet

Will you wait for me when the winter bites and the snow lies fine in the square

When you look to our arch by the sweet silver larch and see that I’m not there

Will you wait for me when our cherry tree blossoms and birdsong throngs the air

That bright Springtime song, it’s been so long and still your girl’s not here
